St. Raphael's Catholic Cemetery
St. Raphael's Catholic Cemetery is located at Cheung Sha Wan, the public usually call it as Cheung Sha Wan Catholic Cemetery.
The cemetery is named after St. Raphael, one of the four archangels.
St. Raphael means "God's Remedy" and appears all in the Book of Tobit for 23 times. Tobias was cared for and protected by St. Raphael during his journey. He is the patron saint of the blind, lovers, nurses, travelers, and paramedics.
The cemetery was opened in 1941, is currently the largest Catholic Cemetery in Hong Kong and accommodates the most deceased.
It provides Permanent Burial Lots/Urn Burial Lots, Exhumable Burial Lot (One Extendable Term Only), Niches, Upgraded Niches, Niches (Multiple Extendable Terms), Exhumable Burial Lot (Multiple Extendable Terms), Graveyard for Religious Institutes and Garden of Hope (Garden of Remembrance).
Niches inside Cheung Sha Wan Catholic Cemetery have all been allocated by September 2022. An impending development of a new columbarium at Section 26 to provide 4,208 niches in total for allocation as "Niche (Multiple Extendable Terms)", scheduled for full completion by mid-2026.
The use of "Niche (Multiple Extendable Terms)" is subject to renewable contract terms. Allocation will commence at an initial term of 20 years extendable every 10 years thereafter. More details of arrangements will be provided later.
The chapel was built in 1983 to facilitate funeral or praying.
